Most Contraversial, Least Confrontational

     When Dalles Jenkins, the producer of the movie series “The Chosen,” was asked about the Church, he made an interesting and insightful response.  Jenkins is an intense and committed Evangelical Christian, but had been dealing with our Church as he used our Goshen, Utah Jerusalem sets for some of his movies.  Acknowledging that many of the Latter-day Saints he had become acquainted with in this endeavor were true Christians and in the face of some criticism from some of his fellow Evangelicals, he stated that their Church was, compared to other churches, “the most controversial, but the least confrontational.”
    In similar fashion, I was reminded of the response of our Church to the recent negative and deceptive Broadway musical “The Book of Mormon.”  Rather than argue over the falsehoods, the Church put out a press release that said, “Read the real Book of Mormon.”
    Most controversial– This probably says more about our Evangelical critics that it does about our church.  Perhaps Jenkins had to say this to fend off criticism he has received for working cooperatively with the Church to film some recent episodes of The Chosen.
    Least confrontational– Perhaps this indicates the high level of security in their faith possessed by members of the Church he has worked with on this project.
