The Ned Utley Rule

     Ned Utley was a neighbor, a wise old Scoutmaster, and my First Counselor when I was Bishop, 1998-2003.  He reported that during his young adult years, he and his wife had had a period in which they were not active in the Church.  This led to his discovery of a rule, that he strongly recommended that others not follow.  He said they missed going to church one week.  The next week they had some reason for not attending again.  The following week, he said, they didn’t even think about going.
    Ned’s rule and warning was: “It only takes two weeks to become inactive in the Church.”
